1969 unreleased acetate

For your delight, the best of English progressive/psychedelia.

An unkown recording from 1969, titled Santa Lucia, by 'Respect'.

An IBC acetate.

Side 1 is titled 'The Minstrel', a more acoustic affair.

Thank you for your comments gentlemen. This recording was a rejected demonstration acetate recording by what will most likely remain an unknown group. I too would like to find the artists.

The Finders Keepers single is back on tap. You can find it by clicking on the link in in the left hand column.

This is great - thanks a lot for the sounds!

The singer's voice sounds extremely familiar, but I can't figure out who he reminds me of...

I'd love to hear the acoustic side as well (if possible).

Thank you for your comment.

I have to agree that the vocals are all too familiar (cressida, Khan?), but it could simply be down to many bands of that era having that hoarse sound.

If anyone can throw light on this recording I would be most grateful.

I will put side 2 up some time in the future. It is, however, far less interesting.

one of the Guitar players is my dad. funny thing finding a demo from him on the web after all the time.

Hello Alex

I would really like to hear more about your father and the band he played in. Would you be prepared to share more information, perhaps by email?

Thank you for your post

Having seen an article in our local paper I felt compelled to visit your site. My name is Dave Bowden and I was the vocalist and co writer with the band Respect. I have very fond memories of those psychedelic times and have been in various bands ever since. Thank you so much for showing an interest in our music (Santa Lucia) if you would like further info leave a response and I will get back to you - cheers Dave.

Thank's for the review. I was the drummer in the band Respect and my name is Graham ( Charlie ) Chandler.
Mike Grant got in contact with me to tell me about this site. My parents funded the recording and i still have the master tape. I am still playing and currently in a band called Red House.
Glad that Dave got in touch. I have also contacted Clive Whitelock the co writer.

Cheers Charlie.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the message. It is great that so many of the band members are back in contact, and that the short history of 'Respect' is coming to light.

I was wondering if an original master tape existed, so this is excellent news. I am interested in any information about the band's origin and performances, photographs and other recordings. I have a project of sorts in mind so would appreciate your contacting me by email using the address at top of page,

Regards

Sir Henry

Hello Charlie (and Dan),

Once again, it is terrific to hear from another band member, and you actually have the master tape! As I said to Dave, you can email me if interested with a view to putting Respect on the map of British rock history.

Regards

Sir Henry

Hello.

We think there was another guitarist in the band called Paul Russell. Can anyone shed any light?

Cheers.

Yes, that's correct. Paul was an original member of Respect. Respect started up as a four piece with Dave singing and playing lead guitar. Mick was asked to join and play lead guitar. When Paul left the band he was replaced by Keith.
Keith played lead on most of the songs although on Santa Lucia it is Mick who you can here with the Wah Wah effect guitar at the end of the song with Keith playing an accompaning solo in the background. On the other side of this Demo Disc, a song called The Minstrel, it is Keith who plays lead guitar.

Thanks for the info... I'd be really interested to know if anyone is still in touch with Paul?

Good evening

I am having problems with many of my music links in Divshare, and will probably have to redo many over the coming months.

If you email me using the address at sirhenryrawlinson@inbox.com I will email you an mp3 of the track.

Sir Henry
