Wow, that's one weird recording, especially the intro.
I concur.This is a weird recording,but I like music that is off beat (pun fully intended!)and off color. Makes listening exciting.Wish we could find out the artist.You post some cool 45's here.Umm..may I have a request....A repost of "ON the BEACH" by Finders Keepers..if possible..thanks..nice blog,,regards,John.
Thank you for your comments gentlemen. This recording was a rejected demonstration acetate recording by what will most likely remain an unknown group. I too would like to find the artists.

The singer's voice sounds extremely familiar, but I can't figure out who he reminds me of...

I have to agree that the vocals are all too familiar (cressida, Khan?), but it could simply be down to many bands of that era having that hoarse sound.
If anyone can throw light on this recording I would be most grateful.
I will put side 2 up some time in the future. It is, however, far less interesting.
Well actually I know the band.
one of the Guitar players is my dad. funny thing finding a demo from him on the web after all the time.

Having seen an article in our local paper I felt compelled to visit your site. My name is Dave Bowden and I was the vocalist and co writer with the band Respect. I have very fond memories of those psychedelic times and have been in various bands ever since. Mike Grant got in contact with me to tell me about this site. My parents funded the recording and i still have the master tape. I am still playing and currently in a band called Red House.
Glad that Dave got in touch. I have also contacted Clive Whitelock the co writer.

We think there was another guitarist in the band called Paul Russell. Can anyone shed any light?

Yes, that's correct. Paul was an original member of Respect. Respect started up as a four piece with Dave singing and playing lead guitar. Mick was asked to join and play lead guitar. When Paul left the band he was replaced by Keith.
Keith played lead on most of the songs although on Santa Lucia it is Mick who you can here with the Wah Wah effect guitar at the end of the song with Keith playing an accompaning solo in the background. On the other side of this Demo Disc, a song called The Minstrel, it is Keith who plays lead guitar.
